What to do when you start looking for a home?

Buying a home can be an exciting and stressful time. Whether you are buying your first home, or whether you may not have bought a home for a number of years, you may be feeling overwhelmed and not know where to start.

When you have decided to buy a new home, you should start by saving your deposit. You should also arrange to meet with your broker or banker to obtain finance pre-approval. This will help you to have an understanding of how much you can afford to pay when purchasing your new property. When discussing finances with your broker or banker, don’t forget to consider solicitor fees, stamp duty and other disbursements such as pest and building inspections when discussing your budget with your broker. The Department of Fair Trading has useful information which explains different finance options available, use the link below to access the article: –

When you start looking for a new home, you should check to see if you are eligible for the first home buyers grant or any stamp duty concessions or exemptions.

Once you have an idea of how much you can borrow and are confident that you make the loan repayments, the fun begins, and you can start searching for your brand-new home.
